I have a confession to make....
.........I LIED IN CLASS..........
BUT IT WAS A MISTAKE (I promise)! >_<
Ok, ok, ok. We all make mistakes and I know people say that the classroom is the place to them.... BUT, When it happens it's a lot harder to own up to it than one thinks. Well, for me at least... It's not that I'm too prideful (I hope not) but it's just that I am KNOWN far and wide for my mistakes! I make the most embarrassing (funny to the class) mistakes that make me look like a complete dolt!
"Oh, she is being overly dramatic!" you might think. Well take this mistake for example: I've just started a new school and am in the 4th grade. I don't know a soul and we do a quick written assignment. We all line up and turn the worksheet into our teacher. When I get to the front of the line and I hand her my assignment, the teacher smiles and then checks my name with the roster (she's trying to learn our names). As she does this, her lips pucker and her eyebrows scrunch up in confusion.
"Brianna?" She asks me.
"Yes Ma'am?"
"The roster has a different spelling than the way you spelled your name. Do you only spell it with one 'n'?"
"...no." I mumble.
"What?"
"The roster is right! I SPELLED MY NAME WRONG!"
".................................................................."

I left out one of the n's in my name! |
....Yeah....
My mistake in Japanese Class was worse because I didn't own up to it! I told the class that my birthday was:
たんじょうびはごがついつかです。
|
ごがついつかじゃありません。 |
My birthday is NOT May 5th. It is May 2nd. "That's not that bad!" you might think. But May 5th isn't just a run of the mill day in Japan. It is a NATIONAL HOLIDAY:
CHILDREN'S DAY
I didn't realize what I had done until my teacher put up a slide with the date in Roman digits... By then she had repeated that my birthday was a National Holiday and we even went into a discussion about what people do on that day.... I was drowning in shame the entire time.... Days soon past with my false birthday... And each day I was reminded that my birthday was ごがついつかです。The embarrassment seemed unbearable....
....All because I was too proud to speak up. Today I went online and searched for a quote to make me feel better. And look at what I found:
When you realize you've made a mistake, make amends immediately. It's easier to eat crow while it's still warm. ~Dan Heist
So soothing, I know.
Although my crow is freezing cold with icicles forming on it... I have decided to swallow my mistake. I don't have a real birthday in class and I want to set the record straight! I will end this post with my real birthday:
たんじょうびはごがつふつかです。
